Play the Fool
~ Those who live their best lives are willing to look like a fool ~
Right now, there is something you've wanted to do for years that is still sitting in your dreams because you're frightened of looking foolish.
The best way to conquer a soul is with fear.
"What will they think about me?" Is the biggest dream killer I know of.
People will spend their entire lives holding themselves hostage from really living what they hold in their heart as a big potential, a possibility and a probability if they'd stop caring what others think about them.
I've never heard anyone over eighty claim they wish they'd cared what other people thought about them more throughout their lives. Never. Instead, the vast majority state their biggest regret in life was caring what others thought and not taking risks doing the things they always wanted to do.
Funny how we are not on other people's mind as much as we think, yet the thought that we are, can keep us from living our full potential and taking the risks we think will make us look foolish.
Think of someone like Queen Elizabeth who is more popular and known around the world than you are. Did you think of her today? Did you think about Brad Pitt or Al Pacino? Probably not and they are far more famous than you. Point is people don't think about you nearly as much as you think they do.
For clarity, being a fool isn't recommended, and people who are actual fools don't realize it. Plenty of wise men have said not to argue with a fool because onlookers can't tell the difference. That's not what we're after.
The point I want you to grasp tightly is this: Becoming the best version of yourself, making a radical change or diving into a new adventure or project comes with the risk of looking like a fool.
You have to be okay looking foolish.
This writing wouldn't be here, and you wouldn't be reading it if I wasn't willing to look like a fool.
This will help if like me, you are introverted and have struggled with the fear of looking like a fool. Nobody should strive to be a bonified fool, but if looking silly and foolish has stopped you from doing anything your heart desires, then these reminders will help you too:
1- To do anything new, you have to be willing to look like a fool.
2- Humiliation is a scary risk, but it won't kill you.
3- You are going to eventually die (leave your human suit) so what are you waiting for?
4- Others don't notice your mistakes as much as you think they do.
Imagine if you pushed your potential to the limit, didn't care what other people thought about it and finally risked looking like a fool going after the dream you've put off for years.
You have the freedom to fail and try again. Failure only happens to those who try stuff and are willing to look like a fool.
Enjoy the ride of trying new things, looking like a fool, laughing the entire time knowing life is about experiences and be proud you had the courage to experience looking like a fool. It gets easier each time you risk looking like one.
